Multiple Events Will Take Place For the Public

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will be recognizing several women throughout the month of March during Women’s History Month.

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will be recognizing several women throughout the month of March during Women’s History Month. The Friday Night Locker Room’s Steve Wilson, Orville Susong and Terry Spain will be covering multiple events throughout the month.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – March is Women’s History Month. According to a White House proclamation that was released on February 29, 2024, Women’s History Month is the time, “to celebrate the courageous women who have helped our Nation build a fairer, more just society.”

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will be recognizing several women throughout the month of March. My broadcasting partners, Orville Susong and Terry Spain, and I will be covering multiple events throughout the month.

Below is a list of March events at the KSC Visitor Complex recognizing women that are making history:

■ March 3, 2024 – March 7, 2024 – Meet Astronaut Heidi Piper

■ March 8, 2024 – March 11, 2024 – Meet Astronaut Julie Payette

■ March 8, 2024 – 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – Presentation will be made inside Journey To Mars. Guest Speaker will be Riley Havel.

■ March 11, 2024 – 11:30 a.m. – Presentations will be made inside Journey To Mars. Guest Speakers will be Ruth Nichols and Karly Liebendorfer.

■ March 18, 2024 – March 21, 2024 – Meet Astronaut Wendy Lawrence

■ March 19, 2024 – 3:00 p.m. – Presentations will be made inside Journey To Mars. Guest Speakers will be Grace Robertson and Kathleen Bostick.

■ March 22, 2024 – March 24, 2024 – Meet Astronaut Susan Kilrain

■ March 25, 2024 – Presentations will be made inside Journey To Mars. Guest Speakers will be Olivia Bitcon and Samantha Stoltz.

Visitors can also enjoy exhibits throughout the visitor complex that feature women who have made an impact on the space industry:

■ In Heroes and Legends, a new Trailblazers exhibit will highlight female astronauts including Sally Ride, Ellen Ochoa, Kalpana Chawia, Mae Jemison and Nicole Mann.

■ The Astronaut Hall of Fame features inducted astronauts including Sally Ride, Kathryn Thornton, Susan Helms, Bonnie Dunbar, Eileen Collins, Shannon Lucid, Rhea Seddon, Janet Kavandi, Ellen Ochoa, and Sandra Magnus.

■ In Space Shuttle Atlantis® see the Shuttle which carried trailblazing female astronauts like Mary Cleave, Shannon Matilda Wells Lucid, and Pamela Melroy, among others, to space.

Steve Wilson moved to Brevard County in 1984 and has been a partner, along with Orville Susong, for the past 24 years with the Friday Night Locker Room, a broadcasting team that covers and reports on a wide variety of local events that are of significance to the residents of the Space Coast and beyond. Steve Wilson was born in DeRidder, Louisiana and grew up in both New Orleans and Macon, Georgia.  He moved to Brevard County in 1984 and retired from local government as the Community Advocate/Assistant to the City Manager with the City of Rockledge in 2018.

Among the awards and accolades Steve has received over the years are 15 + year Rockledge Little League volunteer, Brevard Public School Jefferson Award Recipient, Rockledge High School Raider Booster Award 2001, 2006, City of Rockledge Employee of the Year 2006, Rockledge Kiwanian of the Year 2006-2007, City of Rockledge Quality Public Service Award 2008, 2012, 2017, Rockledge Kiwanis Citizen of the Year 2012-2013, Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame – Sportscasting 2015, Rockledge High School Leadership and Service Award 2016, Central Florida Humanitarian Award 2017, Space Coast Inspiration Award – 2018,  Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame – Lifetime Achievement – 2020, Ecofest Achievement Award – 2022, Quality Floridian Award – 2022, presented by U.S. Congressman Bill Posey.

Wilson is especially proud of his chairing two fundraisers in support of pediatric cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in honor of Merritt Island resident Julie Spurlock that raised over $25,000.00.

He has been a partner, along with Orville Susong, for the past 24 years with the Friday Night Locker Room, a broadcasting team that covers and reports on a wide variety of local events that are of significance to the residents of the Space Coast and beyond. Their mission is to promote youth sports, support first responders and law enforcement personnel, and showcase community and charitable events that are produced by our nonprofit partners in central Florida.

The Friday Night Locker Room has awarded hundreds of sports achievement plaques to Brevard County student-athletes over the years. They have also awarded more than $18,000 in academic scholarships to Brevard County high school seniors.
