The Space Coast performer points out that his proximity to the Atlantic Ocean reminds him every day of the vital role the ocean plays in the economy and daily life of most Floridians, including himself.

“I make a big chunk of my living playing gigs at beachside venues and all along the Indian River Lagoon here in Brevard County, as well as the Treasure Coast, which runs deep into South Florida,” said McDonald.

Officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008, International World Oceans Day advocates for the protection of the ocean and the sustainability of its resources.

However, McDonald’s new song is also profoundly informed by the emotional benefits of the ocean. As he puts it, “Nothing is more therapeutic than the beach on a beautiful day. The sound of waves is inherently calming, soothing.”

According to the United Nations website, “World Oceans Day was first proposed to celebrate our world’s shared ocean and our personal connection to the sea, as well as to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives.”

The theme for the International World Oceans Day 2023 is “Planet Ocean: tides are changing,” during which the UN will host decision-makers, indigenous leaders, scientists, private sector executives, celebrities, and youth activists to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that restores its vibrancy and brings it new life.

Although McDonald’s song implicitly acknowledges the challenge of daunting problems like pollution when he sings, “the world keeps burning while the tide keeps turning,” he ultimately offers a hopeful, optimistic message in Beach More, Worry Less: “It doesn’t take much to make the world a little better,  Mother ocean keeps telling us that we’re all family.”
