BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) announces the expansion of its military advocacy program Space Coast Salutes to include a talent attraction and retention effort for the military community titled “Military Launchpad.”  This curated effort addresses employer workforce demands by streamlining military hiring resources for employers and bridging the divide between employers and job seekers.

First launched by the EDC in 2019, Space Coast Salutes was created as a military appreciation effort to encourage residents on Florida’s Space Coast to show support to active-duty service members, veterans and military families. This program was later expanded to include the Space Coast Military Friendly Guide, a cohesive resource for military families moving to the Space Coast.

The announcement comes during National Veterans and Military Families Month in November.

Lynda L. Weatherman, President and CEO of the EDC, commented, “Space Coast Salutes: Military Launchpad will make a significant impact on the Space Coast community and its workforce. By connecting employers with military talent, the program addresses talent shortages in key industries and promotes economic growth.”

Military Launchpad provides support and resources for employers on Florida’s Space Coast to access military talent through three primary resources:

■ Department of Defense (DOD) SkillBridge program, an opportunity for service members to gain valuable work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service.

■ Department of Education (DEO) Registered Apprenticeship program which enables employers to develop and apply industry standards to training programs for registered apprentices that increase productivity and improve the quality of the workforce.

■ Launches, Lagers & Vets, an expansion of the EDC’s Launches & Lagers program, provides a low-pressure and professional environment for informational interviews between employers and the military community.

This program addresses the challenges faced by service members when transitioning from the military to civilian life which is often marked by complex and overwhelming hurdles such as obtaining new licenses and certifications, adapting to different work environments, and navigating employment opportunities.
