CHARLESTON, NORTH CAROLINA – Eight members of the Port Canaveral Propeller Club attended the annual conference of the International Propeller Club in Charleston, South Carolina.

Joining over 250 representatives from all over the world including Greece, France and Germany, the group spent time immersed in a sea of knowledge, exploring cutting-edge technologies; sustainable practices; and global trends.

The Propeller Club had its start in 1922 as an informal group of maritime professionals and became a national and international organization in 1927.

Today, this prestigious international business network, with more than 70 Propeller Club Ports located throughout the world, is dedicated to the promotion of the international maritime industry and the efficient and economical transportation of global trade.

At the Annual Awards dinner, the Maritime Person of the Year is honored.

This award typically recognizes someone outside the international Propeller Club who has contributed immense value to the worldwide maritime community; whose outstanding work of service has made a significant contribution and impact to public port authorities and/or maritime commerce; and whose life has materially exemplified a stellar maritime career overall improving the maritime profession.

This year the honor was awarded to retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Wayne Justice.

He has served on the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral Board for over ten years. He volunteers with other community non-profits including Crosswinds Youth Services of Melbourne; the Cape Canaveral chapter of the Military Officers Assoc. of America; and the Navy League, Space Coast Chapter.

His service on the Port Canaveral Commission is a continuation of his service to the Maritime Industry during his 37-year Coast Guard career.

Kevin Jones, President of the Port Canaveral Propeller Club stated, ” We are so proud of all the accomplishments Wayne has received. His leadership to the club; the Canaveral Port Authority; his amazing Coast Guard career; and his efforts beyond Port Canaveral are the reasons he was selected for this international honor.”
