BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Port Canaveral plays a critical role in ensuring Florida has adequate fuel supplies, especially before and after heavy weather events.
Tanker vessels carrying transportation fuels destined for our region are given priority status for berthing and discharge at Port Canaveral.
The first vessel to enter Port Canaveral after Hurricane Idalia is the gasoline tanker Angel Star. The tanker was here on Monday before the hurricane and offloaded 158,000 barrels of gasoline before departing the Port to wait out Hurricane Idalia.
She will be offloading an additional 184,000 barrels (totaling 342,000 barrels).
In total, the tanker will have delivered a 14-day supply of gasoline, some of it destined for the hard-hit areas in Florida.
