Rockledge Defeats Port St. John 4-1 in Florida District 22 Little League All-Star Tournament Action

LITTLE LEAGUE ACTION: THE FRIDAY NIGHT LOCKER ROOM ON SPACE COAST DAILY TV

In Florida District 22 Little League action on Thursday night, Cocoa LL met Mims LL in 9/10/11 Baseball play at Holder Park. Down at McLarty Park, the 10/11/12 Baseball division concluded with an 8-inning barnburner between Merritt Island and Port St. John.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – In Florida District 22 Little League action on Thursday night, Cocoa LL (v) met Mims LL (h) in 9/10/11 Baseball play at Holder Park.

In the first inning, Cocoa’s Brantley Free and Yaziel Hernandez scored, and Port St. John answered back in their half with 2 runs of their own from Ethan Selph and Lane Engstrom.

Cocoa’s Hunter Doty tacked on another run in the 3rd, but it wasn’t enough as Mims scored 11 more runs, led by multiple runs from Selph, L. Engstrom, Jackson Hubinger, and Andrew Morris.

Mims’ Lukas Peterson and Noah Donoro combined on the mound for the 13-3 win in 3 1/2 innings.

Mims LL will meet Merritt Island LL Friday night for the championship game in this division.

Down at McLarty Park, the 10/11/12 Baseball division concluded with an 8-inning barnburner between Merritt Island (v) and Port St. John (h).

Merritt Island had doubles from Benjamin Hintz and Jayce Santos and runs from Santos, Hintz, and Connor Force in regulation play.

For Port St. John, Warren Culleny hit a double and Ayden Williams had a triple, while Culleny, Jaxon Plecki, and Landon Spires scored to end the sixth inning tied up at 3.

Neither team was able to plate a run in the seventh, so they entered the 8th still tied at 3 and started the “Texas Tie-Breaker” with Merritt Island’s Dylan Ficarrotto on second.

Ficarrotto would score, along with Santos and Xavier Barchanowicz to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the inning.

Port St. John battled back with runs from Plecki and Mason Nagle, but a great play by the Merritt Island shortstop throwing over to first for the last out of the game, ended it with Merritt Island at 6 and Port St. John at 5 after 8 complete innings.
