BREVARD COUNTY, COCOA, FLORIDA— The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse will present Oklahoma! from Friday January 26 to February 11.
This prouction is presented through special arrangements with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.
In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story.
Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
Located in beautiful downtown Cocoa Village, the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse provides affordable community theatre and promotes lifelong education in the performing arts for Brevard County residents and visitors.
The Playhouse plays a leading role in downtown Cocoa Village and serves as a significant engine to the economic growth of the downtown area and the Space Coast as a whole. Established as the “Aladdin” theatre, the doors opened to the public on August 18th, 1924, showing silent movies. Later, Brevard’s first “talkie” movie house became known as “the showplace of the Indian River Section”. As the owners changed through the years, the theatre featured vaudeville acts, served as a station for the American Red Cross during wartime and then became the State Theatre featuring movies on the “big picture screen.”
