Six more units will follow

WATCH: Community of Hope, a non-profit serving homeless families with children by providing housing programs, “cut the ribbon” on four units in Titusville. Representatives from Community of Hope, government officials, building contractors that were involved with construction, and many more were in attendance.

Among those speaking prior to the ribbon cutting were, State Senator Tom Wright, Community of Hope CEO Drew Warren, Titusville Mayor Dan Diesel, Community of Hope Board Member Pam Davis, and Titusville Chamber of Commerce President Erin Akins.

I had the opportunity to talk with Warren prior to the ribbon cutting. He told me these four units are a part of ten units that will be built, with the other six being completed in approximately one year.

In describing these units, Warren said, “These are beautiful, well-constructed units that are for people who are struggling to find affordable housing.”

Senator Wright talked about the challenges surrounding affordable housing. He beamed with pride when talking to those that were directly involved with this project, saying, “Your persistence and your dedication is making this possible for several residents.”

Davis echoed the sentiments of those speaking, saying, “These homes are amazing, and they are going to do such amazing things, not only for the families that live here, but also the community.”

Davis also talked about an upcoming fundraiser for Community of Hope that will be taking place Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Space Coast Convention Center. For information on the fundraiser, see hopeofbrevard.com.

City of Titusville Mayor Dan Diesel was among those in attendance for the Community of Hope ribbon cutting that opened four new houses in Titusville. I spoke with Mayor Diesel after the ribbon cutting and he told me, “It’s a beautiful facility. I call these houses that are turning into homes when everyone moves in.” He went on to say, “I think it benefits and enhances our community. It shows that it can be done.”

The highlight of the day for me was when I sat down and talked with Angela.

She and her family will be moving into one of the new units very soon. Angela told me, through a big smile, “It’s a blessing to have a roof over my head for me and my children. And I thank God for everything.” She could not say enough good things about Community of Hope and all those involved with this project that have helped to make her dream come true.

Wilson is especially proud of is chairing two fundraisers in support of pediatric cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in honor of Merritt Island resident Julie Spurlock that raised over $25,000.00.

He has been a partner, along with Orville Susong, for the past 24 years with the Friday Night Locker Room, a broadcasting team that covers and reports on a wide variety of local events that are of significance to the residents of the Space Coast and beyond. Their mission is to promote youth sports, support first responders and law enforcement personnel, and showcase community and charitable events that are produced by our nonprofit partners in central Florida.

The Friday Night Locker Room has awarded hundreds of sports achievement plaques to Brevard County student-athletes over the years. They have also awarded more than $18,000 in academic scholarships to Brevard County high school seniors.
