BREVARD COUNTY • PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, FLORIDA – Lieutenant Colonel Jacquelyn Shawaryn took command of the 920th Force Support Squadron during an assumption of command ceremony.

The assumption of command is a military tradition that formally signifies the transfer of responsibility and authority from one commanding officer to another; symbolized through the passing of a guidon.

Shawaryn comes to the 920th FSS after serving as the Deputy Commander for the 919th Special Operations Mission Support Group at Duke Field, Florida.

In this role, she was responsible for the operational oversight of security forces, tactical communication, expeditionary civil engineering, sustainment, and personnel services.

Lt. Col. Sarah Scaglione, 920th Mission Group commander, presided over the ceremony. She acknowledged the determination, hard work and value the 920th FSS has for the 920th Rescue Wing mission.

“The FSS provides services that our Airmen need to be healthy, happy, and focused on their jobs. Lieutenant Colonel Shawaryn is the best person to lead the FSS because of her strong background in personnel, passion for the job, and commitment to excellence,” Scaglione said.

Upon taking command, Shawaryn took the podium speaking to how she plans to support and continue to prepare 920th FSS Airmen for mission execution.

“I have been trusted to lead some of the most motivated, energetic, and devoted Airmen the Air Force has to offer. I promise to remain committed to you, your families, and our mission. I will do my best to carry the unit to new heights and prepare our Airmen for the future fight,” Shawaryn said.

The 920th FSS includes multiple flights that specialize in professional and responsive support for the wing’s 25 subordinate groups and squadrons including Airman and Family Readiness, Education and Training, Military Personnel, and Sustainment Services.
