YOUR VIEW: Republican Liberty Caucus Calls On City of Titusville to Revoke Sister City Status with Yueyang, China

'RLC believes that it is important for the City of Titusville to uphold American values and principles'

NATHAN WHITE: The Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida (RLC) passed a resolution on Wednesday calling for the City of Titusville to revoke its sister city status with Yueyang, China, and can be seen below in its entirety.

The concept of sister cities is not a new one, they have long been viewed as partnerships that provide valuable opportunities for cultural exchange and economic development.

However, the issue of having sister cities in hostile nations with repeated human rights violations has become a topic of concern worldwide, including for many Americans. Many cities around the world have severed ties with their sister cities in Russia over the invasion of Ukraine and China over their rampant human rights violations.

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida (RLC) passed a resolution on Wednesday calling for the City of Titusville to revoke its sister city status with Yueyang, China, and can be seen below in its entirety. The resolution was motivated by concerns over the Chinese government’s record on human rights, intellectual property theft, and cyber espionage against the United States.

The RLC, an organization dedicated to promoting the principles of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, argues that the sister city partnership between Titusville and Yueyang is a symbolic endorsement of the Chinese government and its policies, which are antithetical to American values and principles.

The resolution reads, “The Chinese government has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of respect for individual liberties, property rights, and the rule of law, and has engaged in a systematic campaign of repression against the people of Hong Kong, ethnic and religious minorities, and political dissidents. The Chinese government has also engaged in cyber espionage, intellectual property theft, and other hostile activities against the United States.”

The RLC believes that it is important for the City of Titusville to uphold American values and principles and to stand with those who share a commitment to freedom and democracy. The organization argues that the sister city’s partnership with Yueyang provides a tacit endorsement of the Chinese government and its policies, which are in opposition to these values.

The resolution calls on the City of Titusville to revoke its sister city status with Yueyang, China, and to publicly state its commitment to the principles espoused in the United States Constitution. The RLC has sent a copy of the resolution to the Mayor and City Council members of Titusville, as well as other relevant officials and organizations.

The City of Titusville has yet to respond to the resolution, but the RLC is hopeful that their call to action will be heard and that the city take action.
