BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech forward Elias Martin earned Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Panthers conference games last week against Eckerd and No. 3 Nova Southeastern.
This is the first Defensive Player of the Week honors for Martin this season and the second of his career, after he earned the award last season on Jan. 16, 2023.
On Saturday against No. 3 Nova Southeastern, Martin was a force in the paint and recorded a season-high five blocks to help the Panthers take down the Sharks, 90-80, and earn its first win over NSU since the 2017-18 season, and first win over a top-five program since the 2014-15 season.
The Florida native also added one steal and four defensive rebounds to go along with 10 points and three assists on the offensive end.
Earlier in the week against Eckerd, Martin registered his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds (four defensive).
The senior recorded two blocks in the contest to make it seven on the week.
The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when they take on Tampa on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Tampa, Fla.
