25 straight months of 'best month for that month'
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The April Tourist Development Tax (TDT) has come in at $2.416 million – a record for the month of April.
This beats the previous two best Aprils – 2022 at $2.274 million and 2021 at $1.719 million. This is 6 percent ahead of the previous April and the fourth-best month in TDT history.
What is amazing is that year to date, we are at $16.02 million, which only a few years ago in 2019 was a record-breaking milestone. This is 17.6 percent ahead of last year’s previous high YTD number of $13.6 million.
We also now hit 25 straight months of “best month for that month.” We think it may be harder to continue through the summer months as last summer was very strong. From a spring break season perspective, March and April were $5.59 million, which is 10.2 percent ahead of the $5.07 million we were at last year.
Looking at TDT by type, hotels represented 66.5 percent of the total for the month, up from 65 percent last month, and vacation rentals were at 32 percent of TDT, down from 34 percent last month.
In terms of hotel/motel revenue by city, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral were at 34 percent, and Melbourne and the Beaches were at 28 percent as a percentage of the total, which is close to the mix of the previous month.
Looking ahead to May, we believe we will most likely come very close to or exceed last year’s high of $1.98 million.
