PETER CRANIS: Brevard County Tourist Development Tax On Record Run, $18 Million Collected This Fiscal Year So Far

four months of collections remain in TDC fiscal year

PETER CRANIS:We now have May TDT numbers and we have collected nearly $18 million with four months of collections remaining in our fiscal year. For June through September, I am projecting we will collect an additional $7.6-$7.8 million. If that happens, we will end the year at $25.6-$25.8 million, about a 10.5-11% growth.

PETER CRANIS: It’s interesting to note that on a rolling 12-month basis, June 2022 through May 2023, we have collected $25.7 million.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – We now have May TDT numbers and we have collected nearly $18 million with four months of collections remaining in our fiscal year.

And while May was the first month in 26 months not to be the highest collection for that month, we have to be thankful for the run that we are on.

In 2019 when I started we had just broken $16 million for the first time in a year. Then 2020 was the COVID year and we were at $13 million. But rather than creep along, TDT grew to nearly $17 million in 2021 (+31%) and an amazing $23.3 million in 2022 (+37%). Now, we are looking to set new records again.

For June through September, I am projecting we will collect an additional $7.6-$7.8 million. If that happens, we will end the year at $25.6-$25.8 million, about a 10.5-11% growth.

It’s interesting to note that on a rolling 12-month basis (June ’22 – May ’23) we have collected $25.7 million.

This would mark three straight years of double-digit growth. The fact that we have already collected more than any other full year except for last year is mind-boggling. So where are we headed? Well, we are being a bit more cautionary as we go into next year.

We have submitted a $27 million revenue budget which would be close to 4% growth. While it doesn’t seem like much compared to the last 3 years, 4% is probably a bit more realistic a growth rate. Of course, you never know and we could blow past that, but time will tell.
