BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With the long Labor Day weekend here, I thought it would be a good time to talk about the various museums and historic homes there are in Brevard County.

For people who say there isn’t a lot to do here on the Space Coast, we at the tourism office beg to differ. There are two dozen museums, historic homes, and other historic locations that people can explore.

These include museums highlighting the space and aerospace programs such as the American Space Museum, Sands Space History Center, the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum, and of course the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex (if you haven’t been lately, there are several new exhibits and attractions).

There are seven historic homes that offer tours like Field Manor and Sam’s House in Merritt Island; The Historic Rossetter House and Green Gables in Melbourne; The Pritchard House Museum in Titusville; The Porcher House in Cocoa; and Lawndale in Rockledge.

The Harry T and Harriett V Moore Memorial Park and Museum chronicles the life and work of the some of the first activists of the modern civil rights era in the State of Florida and features a replica of their historic home. There are also unique museums like the Wizard of Oz Museum in Cocoa Beach which has slowly begun to rack up top rankings on Trip Advisor and the Liberty Bell Museum which features a one-ton replica of the world famous bell with a version that was cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, England, who cast the original bell in 1751.

There are also museums that honor Veterans and Law Enforcement like the Brevard Veteran’s Memorial Center and Museum on Merritt Island and the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum in Titusville.

And there are museums that highlight nature and history like the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science in Cocoa, the Barrier Island Center in Melbourne Beach, and The Brevard Zoo (ranked #3 by USA Today readers in their 10Best Reader’s Choice 2023 awards and among the top 26 best Zoos in America by US News and World Report).
